The 2018 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour is happening this month! North Carolinas electric cooperatives are sending 43 high-school students to Washington, D.C., where they will join more than 1,800 students from across the country for a week-long tour.

Four County EMC has chosen two students to represent our cooperative on the June 9-15 tour, which will give them the chance to participate in leadership training, meet with elected officials, network with their peers and explore Washington, D.C.

Isa Lu, is a junior and attends Topsail High School in Pender County. She has a knack at problem solving and critical thinking. After high school, Isa would like to further her education in Environmental Science.

Cameron Baker is also a junior and he attends Union High School in Sampson County. Cameron is good at problem solving as well. He is a mood setter, very supportive of his fellow students and keeps everyone smiling and laughing along the way.  Cameron plans to pursue his studies in Political Science after he completes high school.

The annual Youth Tour provides outstanding students a unique opportunity to experience Washington, D.C. and learn first-hand about the legislative process, civic engagement and electric cooperatives. This program plays a vital part in our commitment to supporting education and strengthening our communities by allowing us to invest in the future of our local youth.

In addition to receiving an all-expense paid trip to our nation’s capital, Youth Tour delegates are also eligible to apply for several college scholarships and the opportunity to represent North Carolina on the Youth Leadership Council, which is a national cooperative program that seeks to develop strong leadership, presentation and advocacy skills in America’s most promising young leaders.
